Punjab: Two rent statutes run side by side, split by the date of letting: premises let before 30 November 2013 stay under the East Punjab Urban Rent Restriction Act, 1949, and premises let on or after that date come under the Punjab Rent Act, 1995. The tenancy succession or continuation question is decided under the Act that governs this letting. This relinquishment binds only the signing heir own claim; it cannot extinguish another independent statutory right or replace the Rent Authority/Controller process.
