LEGAL BASIS AND WHAT THIS DOCUMENT IS NOT
The record of rights for agricultural land in Punjab, and for the retained revenue villages of Chandigarh, is maintained and periodically verified under ss.31-32 of the Punjab Land Revenue Act, 1887; the khasra girdawari is the Patwari's own harvest-wise inspection note within that record, made and attested under the procedure in the Punjab Land Records Manual and the Financial Commissioner's Standing Orders. An entry in it is evidence of who was found in cultivation or possession at the inspection recorded, and of nothing more — it is not a title document, it does not by itself transfer or extinguish any interest in the land, and a wrong entry is corrected by a separate application to the Assistant Collector or Tehsildar, not by asking for a copy of the entry as it stands.
This application does not itself claim, assert or dispute any right in the land; it only asks the custodian of the record to certify what the record already says.
