Answer what you can. The draft beside these boxes is rewritten as you go, so you can see exactly what each answer does to the document.

What you type stays in this browser. Moving to a new step asks this site to draw it, but nothing is kept anywhere until you choose to keep a copy — and closing this tab loses it.

Your answers

Still to answer

6 answers are still to come.

Nothing is amiss in what you have written. The document is simply not finished, and the draft marks each gap where an answer will go.

  1. The machine owner and the farmer
  2. The land, the crop and the machine
  3. Rate and payment
  4. Signing

Step 1 of 4

The machine owner and the farmer

For example: Gurmeet Singh

What is the machine owner's address?Needed

A number somebody can be reached on. Ten digits is the usual Indian form, and a country code in front of it is fine if you want it there.

For example: 98140-00000

For example: Nirmal Singh

The live draft

The draft, as it stands

This is the document as far as you have reached, not the whole of it yet — the rest appears as you answer more questions. It is rewritten every time you change an answer.

A long blank line — __________ — stands wherever an answer has not been given. It is left that visible on purpose, so an unfinished document cannot be mistaken for a finished one.

No answer has been given, so every place a detail belongs is standing blank. The shape of the document is worth reading even now.

COMBINE HARVESTER CUSTOM HIRING AGREEMENT

BETWEEN

__________, of __________, mobile __________ (the "Machine Owner");

AND

__________, of __________, mobile __________ (the "Farmer").

  1. 1. THE WORK
  1. 2. CHARGES AND PAYMENT
  1. 3. FARMER'S DUTIES

3.1 The Farmer shall show the Machine Owner the boundaries of the field and any hazard in it, such as a pipe, a pole, a well, a ditch or a stone, before the work starts, and shall have the crop ready for harvest.

3.2 If the crop has lodged, or the field is wet or uneven, the Farmer shall tell the Machine Owner before the work starts, so that any different rate or extra time can be agreed in writing first.

  1. 4. MACHINE OWNER'S DUTIES

4.1 The Machine Owner shall keep the Machine in good working order, use a competent operator, and harvest with reasonable care so that grain loss and damage to the crop are kept low.

4.2 The Machine Owner shall work the Machine only in the manner and during the hours that any law or order for the time being in force allows, and, when harvesting paddy, shall run it with whatever straw-management attachment such a law or order requires.

4.3 Neither party shall burn the crop residue on the land in breach of any law or order. Any fine or penalty that arises from a party's own breach of this clause is that party's alone to bear.

  1. 5. DAMAGE

5.1 The Machine Owner is responsible for damage to the Farmer's standing crop outside the area to be harvested, to the field bunds and to the Farmer's property that the Machine or its operator causes through carelessness. The Machine Owner is not responsible for damage to a hazard the Farmer did not point out under clause 3.1.

5.2 Any damage claim shall be raised in writing within seven days of the work in that field, failing which it shall be taken to have been waived.

  1. 6. DELAY AND BREAKDOWN

6.1 Rain, a wet field, a breakdown that is repaired without undue delay, or an order of the authorities may delay the work without either party being in breach. The Machine Owner shall tell the Farmer of any delay as soon as he knows of it.

6.2 If the Machine cannot finish the work within a reasonable time, the Farmer may have the balance harvested by another machine and shall pay the Machine Owner only for the area or hours actually done.

  1. 7. DISPUTES

7.1 The parties shall first try to settle any dispute by talking, if they wish with the help of respected elders or the village panchayat.

  1. 8. GENERAL

8.1 This is the whole agreement between the parties on this harvest. Any change must be in writing and signed by both.

Reading costs nothing. Keeping a copy needs an account.

The opening of the draft is on this page as you answer it. Once every answer is in, the button below opens the whole draft, watermarked — still without an account. Printing it, or keeping a clean copy, is where an account is asked for. That is the whole arrangement.

A kept copy has to belong to somebody, and that is the reason for the account. There is nothing further to it.
