Rent-split Instruction Letter to the Tenant

Answer what you can. The draft beside these boxes is rewritten as you go, so you can see exactly what each answer does to the document.

What you type stays in this browser. Moving to a new step asks this site to draw it, but nothing is kept anywhere until you choose to keep a copy — and closing this tab loses it.

Your answers

Nothing answered yet. There are 7 questions on this form.

Still to answer

7 answers are still to come.

Nothing is amiss in what you have written. The document is simply not finished, and the draft marks each gap where an answer will go.

  1. The tenant and the premises
  2. The co-owners and their shares
  3. How and when the tenant should pay

Step 1 of 3

The tenant and the premises

For example: Chandigarh

A calendar date — the day, the month and the year. Dates in a document like this are read against one another, so a date typed here can change what another date is allowed to be.

For example: 2026-10-12

For example: Northline Retail Private Limited

Tenant's address for this letterNeeded

For example: Ground-floor showroom

Address of the premisesNeeded

For example: Lease Deed dated 4 April 2022

Clearing empties every box on this form, and there is no way back to what was in them.

The live draft

The draft, as it stands

This is the document as far as you have reached, not the whole of it yet — the rest appears as you answer more questions. It is rewritten every time you change an answer.

A long blank line — __________ — stands wherever an answer has not been given. It is left that visible on purpose, so an unfinished document cannot be mistaken for a finished one.

No answer has been given, so every place a detail belongs is standing blank. The shape of the document is worth reading even now.

RENT-SPLIT INSTRUCTION LETTER

Date: __________
Place: __________

To,
__________
__________

Subject: Payment of rent for __________, __________, in separate shares to each co-owner

Dear Sir or Madam,

  1. 1. We are the co-owners of the premises described above (the "Premises"), which you occupy under __________ (the "Lease"). Our shares in the Premises, and therefore in the rent under the Lease, are set out in paragraph 3.
  1. 3. The shares, and the account to which each share is to be paid, are:
  1. 5. If tax has to be deducted at source from the rent under the income-tax law in force, please deduct it separately from each co-owner's share, deposit it against that co-owner's own PAN, and give each of us a separate certificate for the tax deducted from our share.
  1. 6. This letter changes only the way the rent is paid. It does not change the rent, the security deposit, the term or any other term of the Lease, which continue as they are. A payment made in line with this letter discharges you for the amount so paid. A payment of one co-owner's share to another co-owner does not, unless all of us agree to it in writing.
  1. 7. This instruction can be changed or withdrawn only by a later letter signed by all of us. Until you receive such a letter, please do not act on any instruction about the rent that comes from fewer than all of us.
  1. 8. Please sign the acknowledgement at the foot of this letter and return a copy to each of us.

Yours faithfully,

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT BY THE TENANT

Reading costs nothing. Keeping a copy needs an account.

The opening of the draft is on this page as you answer it. Once every answer is in, the button below opens the whole draft, watermarked — still without an account. Printing it, or keeping a clean copy, is where an account is asked for. That is the whole arrangement.

A kept copy has to belong to somebody, and that is the reason for the account. There is nothing further to it.
