Nothing is amiss in what you have written. The document is simply not finished, and the draft marks each gap where an answer will go.

A calendar date — the day, the month and the year. Dates in a document like this are read against one another, so a date typed here can change what another date is allowed to be.

For example: 21 October 2026

For example: SAS Nagar (Mohali)

How will you give it to the police?Needed

For example: Cyber Crime Police Station, SAS Nagar

For example: the Senior Superintendent of Police, SAS Nagar

For example: Ravinder Pal Singh Walia

What is your address?Needed

An email address somebody actually reads. Notices under a document like this can be sent to it, so a working one matters more than a tidy one.

For example: ravinder.walia@example.com

A number somebody can be reached on. Ten digits is the usual Indian form, and a country code in front of it is fine if you want it there.

For example: +91 98150 76422

A calendar date — the day, the month and the year. Dates in a document like this are read against one another, so a date typed here can change what another date is allowed to be.

For example: 19 October 2026

Do you know who did it?Needed

Phone numbers, UPI IDs, account numbers, website or app names, social media handles, email addresses and any name used; never your own PIN or password.

A long answer. Several lines are fine, and a break you make between paragraphs is the break the document keeps.

For example: The caller used the number +91 99XXX 12345 and said he was an officer of my bank. The money went to UPI ID refundhelp@examplebank and to an account in the name of Mohit Traders, account ending 9930.

In plain facts and in the order it happened: what they claimed, what they asked you to do, what you saw.

A long answer. Several lines are fine, and a break you make between paragraphs is the break the document keeps.

For example: He said my debit card had been blocked and he needed to verify it. He sent a link that looked like my bank's website and asked me to enter details there.

What you clicked, installed or paid. A PIN, OTP or password never goes in this complaint.

A long answer. Several lines are fine, and a break you make between paragraphs is the break the document keeps.

For example: I opened the link and entered my card details and the code that arrived. I did not install any app.

For each: the date, the time if known, the amount, and where it went (UPI ID, account or merchant).

A long answer. Several lines are fine, and a break you make between paragraphs is the break the document keeps.

For example: 1. 19 October 2026 at 16:12 for 49,500 rupees to UPI ID refundhelp@examplebank. 2. 19 October 2026 at 16:15 for 49,500 rupees to the same UPI ID.

An amount in rupees. Commas and a ₹ sign are both fine — write it the way you would write it anywhere else, and the document is given the tidy form of it.

For example: 99000

For example: through my debit card without my approval

When and how you reported to the bank, the reference it gave and what it did, such as blocking the card; write that you have not reported yet if so.

A long answer. Several lines are fine, and a break you make between paragraphs is the break the document keeps.

For example: I telephoned my bank's helpline at 16:30 on 19 October 2026, the card was blocked and the reference number was 7788123.

A sentence saying when and with what acknowledgement number; or say you have not reported yet.

A long answer. Several lines are fine, and a break you make between paragraphs is the break the document keeps.

For example: I reported the matter on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal on 19 October 2026, and my acknowledgement number is 31020261019000731.

Number each: bank statement, screenshots of messages and the website, call log, payment confirmations, the acknowledgement.

A long answer. Several lines are fine, and a break you make between paragraphs is the break the document keeps.

For example: 1. Statement of my savings account from 19 to 20 October 2026. 2. Screenshots of the link and the messages. 3. Call log showing the call of 19 October 2026. 4. Cyber portal acknowledgement.

For example, other people who lost money to the same persons; leave blank if not.

A long answer. Several lines are fine, and a break you make between paragraphs is the break the document keeps.

For example: A neighbour, Mr. Kuldeep Singh, got a call from the same number on 20 October 2026.

For example: Kuldip Singh Sandhu

An email address somebody actually reads. Notices under a document like this can be sent to it, so a working one matters more than a tidy one.

For example: kuldip.sandhu@example.com

The live draft

The draft, as it stands

This is the whole document, not a sample of it. It is rewritten every time you change an answer.

A long blank line — __________ — stands wherever an answer has not been given. It is left that visible on purpose, so an unfinished document cannot be mistaken for a finished one.

No answer has been given, so every place a detail belongs is standing blank. The shape of the document is worth reading even now.

LEGAL BASIS

Punjab: Section 173 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 lets a person give information of a cognizable offence to a police station, orally, in writing or electronically, and the station registers it as a first information report even where the offence happened outside its area, and gives the informant a copy free of cost. Cheating and cheating by personation are offences under sections 318 and 319 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and cheating by personation using a computer resource and identity theft are offences under sections 66D and 66C of the Information Technology Act, 2000. The police station and its senior officer deal with the complaint; if the station does not register it, the informant can write to the senior police officer and apply to the Magistrate, and the High Court at Chandigarh, the Punjab and Haryana High Court, can be approached where the police do not act. A suit for recovery of the money can be brought in the civil court having jurisdiction, and an appeal from its decree goes to the District Judge or to the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Online fraud can also be reported on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal and through helpline 1930.

Chandigarh: Section 173 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 applies in the Union Territory in the same terms: the information may be given orally, in writing or electronically, the station registers it even where the offence happened elsewhere, and the informant is given a free copy. The offences are cheating and cheating by personation under sections 318 and 319 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the offences under sections 66D and 66C of the Information Technology Act, 2000. The complaint goes to the police station for the area or to the cyber crime police station, and, if it is not acted on, to the senior police officer and then the Magistrate, with the Punjab and Haryana High Court open where the police do not act. A suit for recovery of the money lies in the civil court at Chandigarh, with an appeal to the District Judge, Chandigarh, or to the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Online fraud can also be reported on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal and through helpline 1930.

Reading costs nothing. Keeping a copy needs an account.

The opening of the draft is on this page as you answer it. Once every answer is in, the button below opens the whole draft, watermarked — still without an account. Printing it, or keeping a clean copy, is where an account is asked for. That is the whole arrangement.

A kept copy has to belong to somebody, and that is the reason for the account. There is nothing further to it.
