A co-owner/heir relinquished an interest to another entitled person; the record must show the resulting share: instrument, releasor, beneficiary, shares, identifiers. Mutation isn't the release — the source instrument must already be effective and registered where required, and shouldn't be mislabeled to dodge stamp treatment.

Cost is the Rs 600 mutation fee (Punjab Revenue Dept, 6 Sep 2026), recovered under s.38(2) at attestation from the person favoured; late reporting (past 3 months) risks a s.39 fine up to 5x — Rs 3,000.
