This is an administrative application, not an instrument chargeable with stamp duty under the Indian Stamp Act, 1899. A processing fee fixed under the Punjab Compulsory Registration of Marriages Rules, 2014 is payable in Punjab instead, with a further late fee where the application is made well after the marriage; the Chandigarh Administration charges its own equivalent fee. Confirm the current fee at the office before applying — it is fixed by rule and revised administratively rather than published as one stable table.

This application is itself how the marriage becomes an entry in the marriage register — in Punjab, the register kept under the Punjab Compulsory Registration of Marriages Act, 2012; in Chandigarh, the equivalent register the Chandigarh Administration maintains. The certificate the Registrar issues after verifying the application is the marriage certificate, and it is that certificate — not this application — that other authorities later ask to see.

The application itself is not required to be notarised, but the Registrar commonly asks for one or more supporting affidavits — of the date and fact of the marriage, or of either party's marital status before it — which do need to be sworn before a Notary Public or an Oath Commissioner, or affirmed before the Registrar's own office. Ask what the specific office wants before the appointment.

Two witnesses to the marriage ceremony are named on this application and commonly asked to sign it or to appear before the Registrar along with both spouses; confirm whether personal appearance of the witnesses is required at the specific office, since practice varies.
