What you type stays in this browser. Nothing is sent anywhere until you choose to keep a copy — and closing this tab loses it.

Still to answer

21 answers are still to come.

Nothing is amiss in what you have written. The document is simply not finished, and the draft marks each gap where an answer will go.

For example: The Senior Superintendent of Police, Ludhiana

A calendar date — the day, the month and the year. Dates in a document like this are read against one another, so a date typed here can change what another date is allowed to be.

For example: 24 September 2026

How is it sent?Needed

For example: Manjit Kaur

For example: wife of Balbir Singh

A plain number. Digits only — no words and no units beside them.

For example: 58

What is your address?Needed

A number somebody can be reached on. Ten digits is the usual Indian form, and a country code in front of it is fine if you want it there.

For example: +91 98723 11418

An email address somebody actually reads. Notices under a document like this can be sent to it, so a working one matters more than a tidy one.

For example: manjit.kaur221@example.com

For example: Division No. 5, Ludhiana

A calendar date — the day, the month and the year. Dates in a document like this are read against one another, so a date typed here can change what another date is allowed to be.

For example: 10 September 2026

For example: in writing, by handing a written complaint to the duty officer at the counter

The substance of what you told the police, in words that read after The information was about.

A long answer. Several lines are fine, and a break you make between paragraphs is the break the document keeps.

For example: a man who took Rs 2,50,000 from me for a car he never delivered, and then threatened to harm my son when I asked for the money back

Names, parentage and addresses where known, and a description of anyone you do not know.

A long answer. Several lines are fine, and a break you make between paragraphs is the break the document keeps.

For example: Ravinder Singh son of Gurnam Singh, proprietor of Sunrise Motors, Ferozepur Road, Ludhiana

A calendar date — the day, the month and the year. Dates in a document like this are read against one another, so a date typed here can change what another date is allowed to be.

For example: 12 June 2026

Tell it in order, in complete sentences: whether it refused to record the information, said it was a civil matter, asked you to wait or to bring more papers, and on what dates.

A long answer. Several lines are fine, and a break you make between paragraphs is the break the document keeps.

For example: The duty officer refused to record the information, said it was a civil matter and told me to go to a lawyer. On 15 September 2026 I went again and was told the same.

For example: a stamped copy of my complaint, diary No. 1822 dated 10 September 2026

Receipts, messages, call records, bank statements, photographs, recordings.

A long answer. Several lines are fine, and a break you make between paragraphs is the break the document keeps.

For example: the booking receipt, my bank statement showing the transfer, and the threatening WhatsApp messages

For example: Consumer complaint No. 211 of 2026 before the District Consumer Commission, Ludhiana

For example: a copy of my complaint of 10 September 2026 with the station stamp, the booking receipt and the bank statement

For example: Manjit Kaur

For example: Kuldip Singh Sandhu

An email address somebody actually reads. Notices under a document like this can be sent to it, so a working one matters more than a tidy one.

For example: kuldip.sandhu@example.com

Which consent statement should print?Needed

The live draft

The draft, as it stands

This is the whole document, not a sample of it. It is rewritten every time you change an answer.

A long blank line — __________ — stands wherever an answer has not been given. It is left that visible on purpose, so an unfinished document cannot be mistaken for a finished one.

No answer has been given, so every place a detail belongs is standing blank. The shape of the document is worth reading even now.

COMPLAINT TO THE SUPERINTENDENT OF POLICE

To: __________

Date: __________

From: __________, __________, aged __________, of __________, telephone __________

Subject: Information of a cognizable offence given at Police Station __________ on __________ and not recorded as a first information report: complaint by post under section 173(4) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023

Sir or Madam,

  1. 1. The information I gave. On __________ I gave information to the officer in charge of Police Station __________, __________. The information was about __________. The persons concerned are __________, and the incident happened on or about __________.
  1. 2. What the police station did. __________ The information has not been recorded as a first information report, and I have not been given a copy of any such record.
  1. 3. Evidence. I hold the following evidence and will hand it to the investigating officer: __________.
  1. 4. My request. Please consider the information, and if it discloses a cognizable offence, have it recorded as a first information report and investigated, either by you or by an officer subordinate to you, as section 173(4) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 provides, and let me have a copy of the record free of cost. I ask that the officer in charge of the police station be directed to act on the information. __________
  1. 5. If no action follows. If this complaint too brings no action, I will apply to the Magistrate, who may order an investigation under section 175(3) after considering my application, supported by affidavit, and the submission of the police.
  1. 6. Other proceedings, and the truth of this account. What I have stated is true to my own knowledge, except where I say I was told it, and I have left out nothing I know about the matter. Enclosed: __________.

LEGAL BASIS

Punjab: The information is received by the officer in charge of a police station under section 173(1) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, orally or electronically and wherever the offence happened; electronic information is signed within three days, and a copy goes to the informant free of cost under section 173(2). Against a refusal to record it, the route is a written complaint by post to the Superintendent of Police under section 173(4), and then an application supported by affidavit to the court of a Magistrate empowered under section 210, which may order investigation under section 175(3). The Sanhita has been in force since 1 July 2024. A police complaint decides no civil right: a claim for money or property is still for the civil court.

Chandigarh: The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 is central law and applies in the Union Territory in the same terms from 1 July 2024. The officer in charge of the police station receives and records the information under section 173(1) and gives a free copy under section 173(2). Against a refusal to record it, the route is a written complaint by post to the Superintendent of Police under section 173(4), and then an application supported by affidavit to the court of a Magistrate at Chandigarh empowered under section 210, which may order investigation under section 175(3). A police complaint decides no civil right, which remains for the civil court at Chandigarh.

Reading costs nothing. Keeping a copy needs an account.

The opening of the draft is on this page as you answer it. Once every answer is in, the button below opens the whole draft, watermarked — still without an account. Printing it, or keeping a clean copy, is where an account is asked for. That is the whole arrangement.

A kept copy has to belong to somebody, and that is the reason for the account. There is nothing further to it.
