Request to Change the EMI Date

Answer what you can. The draft beside these boxes is rewritten as you go, so you can see exactly what each answer does to the document.

What you type stays in this browser. Nothing is sent anywhere until you choose to keep a copy — and closing this tab loses it.

Your answers

Nothing answered yet. There are 29 questions on this form.

Still to answer

22 answers are still to come.

Nothing is amiss in what you have written. The document is simply not finished, and the draft marks each gap where an answer will go.

  1. You and your lender
  2. The loan
  3. The date change wanted
  4. The debit mandate
  5. Delivery and signing

Step 1 of 5

You and your lender

For example: Rohit Anil Deshmukh

Your addressNeeded

A number somebody can be reached on. Ten digits is the usual Indian form, and a country code in front of it is fine if you want it there.

An email address somebody actually reads. Notices under a document like this can be sent to it, so a working one matters more than a tidy one.

For example: HDFC Bank Limited

For example: Kothrud Retail Assets Branch

Address of that branch or officeNeeded
What kind of lender is it? (this decides which grievance forum you can escalate to)Needed
More details — you may leave these

For example: Sneha Rohit Deshmukh

Read the whole draft

Clearing empties every box on this form, and there is no way back to what was in them.

The live draft

The draft, as it stands

This is the whole document, not a sample of it. It is rewritten every time you change an answer.

A long blank line — __________ — stands wherever an answer has not been given. It is left that visible on purpose, so an unfinished document cannot be mistaken for a finished one.

No answer has been given, so every place a detail belongs is standing blank. The shape of the document is worth reading even now.

Subject: Request to change the EMI debit date on Loan Account No. __________ from the __________ to the __________ of each month

Sir / Madam,

  1. I am __________, residing at __________. This letter concerns my __________ bearing Loan Account No. __________ with you.
  1. The EMI is __________ and it is presently debited on the __________ of each month. The account is regular and I intend to keep it that way, which is the reason for this letter.
  1. My request. Please change the EMI debit date on this account from the __________ of each month to the __________ of each month, with effect from the instalment falling due in __________.
  1. Why. I am making this request because __________.
  1. If the __________ is not an available date in your EMI cycle for this product, please allot the nearest available date after it and tell me that date in writing before you make the change. I would rather have a workable date than a rejected application.
  1. Nothing else is to change. Please keep the EMI amount, the rate of interest, the tenor and every other term of the loan exactly as they are, save only for the interim interest dealt with in paragraph 9. If the change you are able to make would alter the EMI, the rate or the tenor in any way, please do not process it — write to me first with the details and let me decide.
  1. The mandate. EMI on this account is collected through the __________ registered against my account with __________ ending __________. I understand that the mandate will have to be amended, or cancelled and freshly registered, for the new date. Please tell me which route you follow, and send me whatever form you need signed. I will sign it and return it the same week, and I will sign in the same form as the signature registered with the debit bank.
  1. Please do not leave a gap. I will not cancel or stop the existing mandate until you confirm in writing that the new mandate is registered and active, and I ask you not to cancel or de-register the existing one before the new one is live either. A gap of even one cycle means an instalment is returned unpaid, and a returned instalment costs me a charge, a bad entry on my credit record, and the statutory consequences that can follow the dishonour of an electronic debit for insufficiency of funds under section 25 of the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007, which are the same as those under section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. Through the changeover month I will keep the debit account funded for both the old date and the new date so that whichever instruction presents itself is honoured.
  1. Interim interest and charges. I understand that moving the due date creates a broken period between the __________ and the __________, and that interest will be charged for those additional days. Before anything is debited, please tell me in writing: (a) the number of broken-period days; (b) the exact amount of interim interest; and (c) any switch, service or documentation fee you propose to levy for this change, with GST if applicable. Subject to those figures being confirmed to me first, I am agreeable to the interim interest being collected __________. I do not authorise any switch, service or documentation fee to be debited until I have confirmed in writing that I accept it. If any charge is levied on me for a returned instalment during the changeover, I ask that it be dealt with as a penal charge in line with the Reserve Bank of India's instructions dated 18 August 2023 on Fair Lending Practice — Penal Charges in Loan Accounts, under which such a charge must be reasonable and commensurate with the non-compliance, must not be levied as penal interest added to the rate of interest, and must not be capitalised.
  1. Credit reporting. Please ensure that no instalment is reported as missed, delayed or in default to any credit information company on account of this change. Lenders now report credit information to the credit information companies at least fortnightly, and in some cases more often, so a single mandate gap shows up on my credit report very quickly, and having it corrected afterwards takes far longer and far more paper than avoiding it in the first place.
  1. What I need back from you. Once the change is made, please send me (a) written confirmation of the new EMI date and the instalment from which it takes effect; (b) a revised repayment or amortisation schedule; and (c) confirmation that the new mandate is registered, with its UMRN if a fresh mandate has been created.
  1. Please acknowledge this letter and let me know your decision within 15 days. I am making this request under your Fair Practices Code and the Reserve Bank of India's Charter of Customer Rights, which include the right to fair treatment and the right to have a grievance considered and answered with reasons. If the request cannot be granted, please tell me in writing why, and what the alternatives are. I ask for 15 days as a matter of courtesy; I understand that you have 30 days from a written complaint before I may take the matter to an external forum.
  1. If I do not hear from you. I will first take it up again in writing with this branch. If that does not resolve it, I will escalate to your Nodal Officer or Principal Nodal Officer for grievances, whose name, address and email I request you to give me, failing which I will take them from your website. If your reply rejects or partly rejects my complaint, please confirm whether it has been placed before your Internal Ombudsman, if you are an entity required to appoint one under the Reserve Bank of India's Internal Ombudsman Directions, 2026. If the matter is still unresolved 30 days after a written complaint to you, or if your reply does not satisfy me, I will take it to whichever external forum is open to me. __________
  1. Delivery and proof. This letter is being sent __________. I am keeping proof of delivery — an acknowledged and stamped duplicate, the sent email to your recorded address, or the registered post receipt and acknowledgement due card, as the case may be. Please treat my email __________ and my mobile __________ as my recorded contact details for your reply, and please send the reply in writing rather than only by telephone.

Thank you.

Yours faithfully,

Reading costs nothing. Keeping a copy needs an account.

The opening of the draft is on this page as you answer it. Once every answer is in, the button below opens the whole draft, watermarked — still without an account. Printing it, or keeping a clean copy, is where an account is asked for. That is the whole arrangement.

A kept copy has to belong to somebody, and that is the reason for the account. There is nothing further to it.
