A tatima is a record aid, not a way to redefine boundaries — prepared officially; title disputes stay separate.

LEGAL BASIS

In Punjab the Halqa Patwari keeps the field map of the revenue estate, and a tatima is the supplementary sketch prepared when a field number is subdivided. A map shows numbers and areas; it does not fix a boundary on the ground, which is a separate demarcation (nishandehi) proceeding, and it does not change the record of rights. In Chandigarh only the Union Territory's revenue villages keep these maps; a sector property held from the Estate Office has none.
