Condonation of Delay Request

Answer what you can. The draft beside these boxes is rewritten as you go, so you can see exactly what each answer does to the document.

What you type stays in this browser. Moving to a new step asks this site to draw it, but nothing is kept anywhere until you choose to keep a copy — and closing this tab loses it.

Your answers

Nothing answered yet. There are 9 questions on this form.

Still to answer

8 answers are still to come.

Nothing is amiss in what you have written. The document is simply not finished, and the draft marks each gap where an answer will go.

  1. You and the delay
  2. The reasons
  3. Privacy and signing

Step 1 of 3

You and the delay

For example: Balwinder Singh

For example: ABCDE1234F

What is your address?Needed

For example: The Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Chandigarh

For example: Assessment year 2025-26

What was late?Needed

A calendar date — the day, the month and the year. Dates in a document like this are read against one another, so a date typed here can change what another date is allowed to be.

For example: 31 July 2026

A calendar date — the day, the month and the year. Dates in a document like this are read against one another, so a date typed here can change what another date is allowed to be.

For example: 14 October 2026

An amount in rupees. Commas and a ₹ sign are both fine — write it the way you would write it anywhere else, and the document is given the tidy form of it.

For example: 18000

Clearing empties every box on this form, and there is no way back to what was in them.

The live draft

The draft, as it stands

This is the document as far as you have reached, not the whole of it yet — the rest appears as you answer more questions. It is rewritten every time you change an answer.

A long blank line — __________ — stands wherever an answer has not been given. It is left that visible on purpose, so an unfinished document cannot be mistaken for a finished one.

No answer has been given, so every place a detail belongs is standing blank. The shape of the document is worth reading even now.

REQUEST TO EXCUSE (CONDONE) A DELAY

Subject: Request to condone delay for __________. PAN: __________.

I, __________, of __________, ask you to excuse a delay. The matter in which the delay occurred is __________ for __________. The last date allowed was __________. It was filed, or will be filed, on __________.

I ask that the delay be excused and that the filing be accepted and processed as if made in time, and that any refund due be processed. I understand that the law decides who may excuse a delay, in which cases and by what time, and that the request may have to be made online or in a prescribed manner. If you are not the proper authority, I ask that this be passed to the proper authority, and I will make the request in the prescribed manner if I am told how.

This is my own letter written in my own words. The statements above are true and correct to the best of my knowledge and belief.

PERSONAL DATA NOTICE

This notice is given under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

Personal data in this document is collected only to ask the tax authority to excuse a delay and support the reasons given, communicate about that purpose, verify the information expressly supplied, and retain an evidentiary record.

The record will be held by __________ and may be shown only to the applicant, the tax authority addressed in it and the applicant's tax adviser or accountant, and to a statutory or tax authority where disclosure is required for the matter recorded here.

If the matter does not go ahead, or this document is withdrawn before it is used, the personal data will be retained for 90 days from that decision and then erased. If it is used, the record will be retained for 12 months after the matter ends and then erased, except for a record that a statute requires to be kept for a longer named period.

Data minimisation: this document deliberately does not require a full Aadhaar number, Aadhaar-card copy, passwords or unrelated identity material. Detailed KYC should remain in the separate KYC workflow; tax or payment identifiers are collected here only where the whole purpose of this document requires them.

Reading costs nothing. Keeping a copy needs an account.

The opening of the draft is on this page as you answer it. Once every answer is in, the button below opens the whole draft, watermarked — still without an account. Printing it, or keeping a clean copy, is where an account is asked for. That is the whole arrangement.

A kept copy has to belong to somebody, and that is the reason for the account. There is nothing further to it.
