LICENCE FOR A CHILD TO LIVE IN THE PARENT'S HOUSE
This Licence is made at Chandigarh on 3 April 2026 between:
Harbans Singh, son/daughter/wife of Late Sh. Gurdev Singh, of House 12, Sector 40, Chandigarh
and Surjit Kaur, co-owner
(together the "Licensor"), and
Rajinder Singh, the Licensor's son (the "Licensee").
- 1. THE HOUSE AND THE PERMISSION
1.1 The Licensor owns the house at House 12, Sector 40, Chandigarh (the "House"): bought by sale deed of 1994 in my name.
1.2 From 1 April 2026 the Licensor gives the Licensee permission, out of love and affection and without payment of rent, to use this part of the House for living: first floor, two rooms with bathroom and a shared kitchen (the "Portion").
1.3 The following members of the Licensee's household may live in the Portion with the Licensee: His wife Kiran Kaur and two children.
- 2. NATURE OF THE PERMISSION
2.1 This is a licence only. It is not a lease or a tenancy and gives the Licensee no interest in the House. The Licensor keeps ownership of the whole House and the right to enter and use it, and the Licensee does not have exclusive possession against the Licensor.
2.2 Living in the House does not give the Licensee or any member of the household any share, ownership or right in the House, however long they stay and whatever they spend on it.
2.3 The permission is personal to the Licensee and the household members named above. It cannot be transferred, shared with others, let out or sub-licensed, and it does not pass to anyone after the Licensee.
- 3. DURATION AND ENDING
3.1 The permission runs from 1 April 2026 until the Licensor ends it by giving the Licensee 30 days' written notice. The Licensor need not give a reason.
3.2 The permission ends in any case on 2 April 2026, unless the Licensor extends it in writing.
3.3 When the permission ends, the Licensee and the household will leave the Portion, take away their belongings and hand back the keys on or before the last day.
3.4 If the Licensee does not leave, the Licensor may take the steps the law allows, including an application to the Tribunal under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 where it applies.
- 4. CONDUCT AND COSTS
4.1 The Licensee will use the Portion only for living, keep it in good condition, make no structural change or addition, and not carry on any business from it without the Licensor's written consent.
4.2 The Licensee and the household will treat the Licensor with respect and will not obstruct the Licensor's own use of the House.
4.3 Costs are shared as follows: The Licensee pays electricity and water bills; the Licensor pays house tax and major repairs..
4.4 The Licensee pays no rent. Nothing in this Licence is a promise to give the Licensee any property, now or in future, and nothing in it affects the Licensor's right to make a Will or deal with the House as the Licensor chooses.
