REPLY TO A TAX NOTICE ABOUT A DIFFERENCE IN RECORDS
Date: 2 April 2026. To: Centralised Processing Centre.
Subject: Reply to the notice as printed on your notice dated 1 April 2026 for Assessment year 2026-27. PAN: ABCDE1234F.
I, Navdeep Gill, received the notice above. It points to a difference of this kind: interest or other income shown in the department's records but different from my return. The notice shows ₹12,500 (Rupees Twelve Thousand Five Hundred only). My records show ₹8,500 (Rupees Eight Thousand Five Hundred only).
My explanation: The bank counted interest on a deposit that matured in the previous year.
My position: I do not agree with the difference, for the reasons given in this reply.
I enclose: bank interest certificate, Form 26AS extract.
I am replying within the time the notice allows or, if I am late, I ask that my reply be taken on record. I ask that the difference be corrected or the matter closed on the basis of this reply, and that I be given a chance to be heard before any adverse order is made.
This is my own reply letter written in my own words. The tax portal may ask for the response in its own online format, in which case I will respond there with the same particulars. The statements above are true and correct to the best of my knowledge and belief.
