Subject: Unauthorised debits of 48,500 rupees from savings account ending 5512 on 3 November 2026
Sir or Madam,
- 1. My account. I hold the account or card described as my savings account ending 5512 and the debit card linked to it with your bank. I did not make or authorise the transactions listed below.
- 2. The transactions. On 3 November 2026: 25,000 rupees at 11:42 pm and 23,500 rupees at 11:47 pm, shown in my statement as online purchases from a merchant I do not know. The total taken without my authority is ₹48,500 (Rupees Forty Eight Thousand Five Hundred only).
- 3. When I found out and what I did. I came to know of these transactions on 1 April 2026. I phoned the bank's helpline at 7:15 am on 4 November 2026, had the card blocked, and was given complaint reference 88231 by the agent.
- 4. What I know about how it happened. The previous evening I received a call from a person claiming to be from the bank, who asked me to click a link. I closed the link, but the transactions followed that night.
- 5. My details. I have not shared any OTP, PIN, password, CVV or card detail with anyone, and no one has had my card or phone.
- 6. Other reports. I reported the matter on helpline 1930 on 4 November 2026 and on cybercrime.gov.in, acknowledgement number 2611045001234. I will give the police any help they need.
- 7. What I require. Please, at once: (a) block or hold the card, account access or channel used for these transactions, so that nothing more can be taken; (b) look into the transactions and tell me in writing what you found; (c) reverse ₹48,500 (Rupees Forty Eight Thousand Five Hundred only) to my account, since I did not authorise the transactions; (d) give me the records of the transactions, including the time, channel and device or merchant details of each; and (e) tell me in writing the name of the officer handling this and the date by which you will answer. I also ask you to make good this further loss: Bank charges of 590 rupees levied on the returned instalment cheque because the money was missing.
- 8. The Reserve Bank's directions. I rely on the Reserve Bank of India's directions limiting a customer's liability for unauthorised electronic banking transactions. As I understand them, the bank must prove any negligence on the customer's part, and must act on a prompt report as those directions provide. I have reported this promptly and I ask you to follow them.
