When you need it

You hold an NRO account in India and want to move funds — up to the limit your bank and the Reserve Bank of India's rules currently allow — into your NRE account, or repatriate them abroad, and your bank asks for a written request along with your chartered accountant's certificate. This is that request letter, addressed to your bank branch.

Usable anywhere in India; it is not specific to Punjab or Chandigarh. Pair this with the CA Remittance Certificate Request if the funds arose from a property sale, or complete a fresh Form 15CA/15CB (or whatever form your bank currently asks for) for any other source of funds.

What follows is the position for this kind of document. The amount is set by the state the property is in and it changes, so the figure for your own state is worth confirming at the sub-registrar’s office before you pay anything.

Stamp duty

Not a stamp-dutiable instrument — a request letter to your own bank, not an agreement or a conveyance.

Registration

Not registrable.

Notarisation

Not required by law, though some banks ask for a physically signed original rather than accepting a scanned copy for a transfer above a certain amount — confirm your specific branch's current requirement.

Witnesses

Not required.

REQUEST FOR TRANSFER FROM NRO ACCOUNT

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am the holder of NRO Account No. XXXXXXXX4567 with your bank. I request you to transfer ₹20,00,000 (Rupees Twenty Lakh only) from this account to NRE Account No. XXXXXXXX8901, same bank, Chandigarh branch, subject to the applicable rules of the Reserve Bank of India and the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999 for a transfer of this kind, and to your bank's own current documentation requirements.

The source of these funds is: Sale proceeds of immovable property in India Specifically, X.

I have obtained the following chartered accountant's certificate in connection with this transfer: Form 15CB dated 4 August 2026, UDIN 26123456AABBCC1234.

I enclose: Form 15CA acknowledgement, Form 15CB certificate, self-attested PAN copy, and the sale deed/rent agreement evidencing the source of funds

I confirm that the funds sought to be transferred are from my own lawful sources, fully disclosed for Indian tax purposes as applicable, and that I will provide any further document or clarification your bank requires to process this request.

Yours faithfully,
