Particularly useful where official documents show inconsistent particulars, such as different spellings across records or no formal birth record for an older family member, and a sworn relationship affidavit is asked for as corroboration. Not a substitute for the underlying documents themselves — birth certificate, passport, family register and the like — which should be attached; this affidavit explains and reconciles them, and does not replace them.

Chargeable under Article 4, Schedule I-A (Punjab) — a nominal fixed duty; authorities commonly print Rs 25, though no official table carries a specific affidavit entry — confirm at the counter. Chandigarh applies its own Schedule I figure. Some consulates and visa-processing centres specify their own stamp-paper value or format for a relationship affidavit in their document checklist — where one is specified, follow it in preference to the general figure. Registration

Not registrable — an affidavit creates no right in property, so Section 17 of the Registration Act, 1908 does not apply.

Notarisation

Required — sworn before a Notary Public, an Oath Commissioner, or an Executive Magistrate, with the deponent appearing in person with photo identification. Because this affidavit is generally relied upon outside India, some consulates additionally require an apostille (India is a party to the Hague Apostille Convention) from the Ministry of External Affairs or an MEA-appointed agency, or consular attestation, on top of notarisation — confirm the destination country's specific requirement.
