LEGAL BASIS
In Punjab the mutation fee is Rs 600 "where ever required", from the Punjab Revenue Department's published table of stamp duty, registration fee and facilitation charges (retrieved 6 September 2026). Section 38(2) of the Punjab Land Revenue Act, 1887 has the Revenue Officer recover it from the person in whose favour the entry is made, and section 39 lets the Collector fine a person who neglects to report an acquisition within three months up to five times the fee. Paying the fee does not sanction the mutation; only the Circle Revenue Officer's attestation order does. In Chandigarh a sector property held from the Estate Office is not mutated under the Act; the Estate Office transfers it on the Administration's own transfer charges, not on this fee.
