When you need it

Your own covering application to the Maintenance Tribunal set up under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007, for parents and senior citizens whose children or relatives will not support them. It is written by you and is not an official printed or online form; attach the papers listed at the end.

The Tribunal sets the monthly amount after hearing both sides; this application only puts your case and asks for an order. Ask the SDM's office which officer sits as the Tribunal for your area, and whether it also takes the application on the state's portal. Not for turning children or relatives out of your house: use the Application to Evict Children or Relatives from a Parent's House. Not for taking back a gift or transfer made on a promise of care: use the Application to Cancel a Gift or Transfer.

What follows is written for Punjab and Chandigarh. It states the position there rather than describing how it varies, so the amounts below are the ones that apply — worth confirming at the sub-registrar’s office, because rates change. If the property is anywhere else in India, none of this is yours.

Stamp duty

No stamp paper is needed for the application itself. If the Tribunal office asks for a court fee stamp or an affidavit with it, follow what the office says; the current requirement is a VERIFY point.

Registration

Not registrable and not meant to be.

Notarisation

Not required for the application. If the office asks for a sworn affidavit with it, swear it before a notary or oath commissioner.

Witnesses

No witnesses are needed. You sign the application and the verification.
