When you need it

You own a taxi, a goods truck or a school van and want to attach it to an operator: a taxi or cab company, a transporter or goods agency, or a school. The operator gives the work, the vehicle runs under its bookings, contract or route, and you are paid a fixed amount, a share or a rate per trip.

Choose the kind of vehicle in the questions, and the Agreement prints the clauses that go with it. Ownership and the permit stay with the owner throughout. A vehicle that carries passengers or goods for hire, or children to school, needs the right registration and permit, a fitness certificate and insurance, and a driver with the right licence. School vehicles carry additional rules on safety and attendants that the school and the transport office apply. This Agreement asks each side to confirm these papers but cannot supply them. This is the Punjab and Chandigarh form. For Himachal Pradesh use the Taxi Attachment Agreement for Himachal. Not for a private car let out on a monthly lease (use Vehicle Rental or Monthly Lease Agreement). Not for selling the vehicle (use Car / Bike Sale Agreement).

What follows is written for Punjab and Chandigarh. It states the position there rather than describing how it varies, so the amounts below are the ones that apply — worth confirming at the sub-registrar’s office, because rates change. If the property is anywhere else in India, none of this is yours.

Stamp duty

This is a services and payment agreement; it transfers no interest in the vehicle. The stamp on it, if any, is the fixed amount for an agreement; no figure is stated here because Punjab and Chandigarh revise theirs from time to time. Check the current amount on the official e-stamping portal before you buy the paper. If the Operator is a company, its own rules may ask for stamp paper anyway.

Registration

Not registrable under the Registration Act, 1908: it concerns a movable vehicle, not land or buildings. Any change to the vehicle’s registration record is made separately, at the Registering Authority.

Notarisation

Not required by law. A notary only records that the signatories appeared and signed, which makes it harder to deny a signature later. Carry original photo ID.

Witnesses

Two witnesses are sensible, each writing full name, address and ID reference beside the signature. A witness is an adult who is not a party to the document.

COMMERCIAL VEHICLE ATTACHMENT AGREEMENT

This Agreement is made at Chandigarh on 2 April 2026 between:

Balwinder Singh, of Village Majri, SAS Nagar (Mohali), Punjab (the "Owner"); and

Tricity Cabs Private Limited, of Plot 14, Industrial Area Phase 1, Chandigarh (the "Operator").

  1. 1. THE VEHICLE AND THE ATTACHMENT

1.1 The Owner attaches to the Operator the vehicle Maruti Suzuki Swift VXi, white, registration number PB10 AB 1234, which is a taxi or cab (the "Vehicle"), from 1 April 2026 to 2 April 2026.

1.2 The Owner remains the registered owner and keeps the RC and the permit. The Vehicle is not sold, pledged or transferred by this Agreement.

1.3 Permit: Tourist permit no. PB/TP/2026/1234, valid to 31 March 2031. The Owner states that the RC, permit, fitness certificate, insurance and pollution certificate are valid, and shall keep them valid and give the Operator copies. The Operator shall not use the Vehicle for hire if any of them is missing or has expired.

  1. 2. TERMS FOR THIS KIND OF VEHICLE

2.1 Taxi or cab: Runs on the Operator’s bookings from the Chandigarh airport and railway station stand; two shifts a day.. The Vehicle shall carry only the number of passengers its RC and permit allow, and shall be driven by a person holding a licence valid for a taxi.

  1. 3. PAYMENT AND COSTS

3.1 The Owner is paid on this basis: a fixed amount every month. In detail: Rs 38,000 a month, paid by the 7th of the following month.

3.2 The Operator shall give the Owner a statement of trips, earnings and any deductions with every payment, and the Owner may inspect the records on reasonable notice. Tax, including any GST or TDS the law requires on these payments, is deducted or paid by the party the law makes responsible.

3.3 Driver: The Owner provides a driver. Costs: The Owner pays fuel, servicing and repairs.

3.4 The Owner has paid the Operator a security deposit of ₹25,000 (Rupees Twenty Five Thousand only). It carries no interest and is returned within thirty days after the attachment ends, less any sum the Operator properly claims for a loss caused by the Owner’s breach.

  1. 4. INSURANCE, CHALLANS AND ACCIDENTS

4.1 The Owner shall keep a valid commercial insurance policy for the Vehicle, with the cover the law requires for passengers, goods or children as the case may be.

4.2 Challans and fines for acts of the driver or the Operator during a run belong to the party that provided the driver. Challans for a missing or expired paper of the Vehicle belong to the Owner.

4.3 After an accident, theft or damage, the Operator shall at once inform the Owner, the police where the law requires, and the insurer, and the Owner shall make the insurance claim. Neither side shall settle a claim for the other without consent.

  1. 5. ENDING THE ATTACHMENT

5.1 Either side may end the attachment early by giving thirty days’ written notice. The Owner may end it at once if payment is more than thirty days late, and the Operator may end it at once if the Vehicle’s papers lapse or the Owner breaks the terms of clause 2.
