You are applying for a spouse or partner visa, and the consulate wants a sworn affidavit — beyond the marriage certificate itself — confirming the marriage is genuine and subsisting, describing how the relationship developed and how the couple lives together or maintains the relationship where living apart pending the visa. Distinct from the Relationship Affidavit for Visa (which establishes a family relationship such as parent-child for sponsorship purposes) and from the NRI Marriage Registration Affidavit (which supports registering the marriage itself) — this one is specifically about the genuineness of the marriage for immigration purposes, which is the question most spouse-visa refusals turn on.

Required — sworn before a Notary Public, an Oath Commissioner, or an Executive Magistrate, with the deponent appearing in person with photo identification. GENUINE MARRIAGE AFFIDAVIT

I, Priya Malhotra, D/o Sh. Sunil Malhotra, resident of House No. 302, Sector 9, Panchkula, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:

1. That I was married to Arjun Malhotra, presently residing at 22 Queen Street, Toronto, ON M5H 2M9, Canada ("my Spouse"), on 1 April 2026 at Chandigarh, and that our marriage subsists and has not been dissolved, annulled or otherwise ended.

2. That our relationship began as follows: Introduced through family in 2022; met in person over three visits before the engagement in June 2023

3. That We currently live together at the same address

4. That we maintain our relationship/joint life as follows: Daily video calls, joint decisions on finances and future plans, and two visits by the deponent to Canada since the wedding, evidenced by passport stamps and photographs

5. That our relationship is further evidenced by: Joint savings account opened in September 2023; spouse named as nominee on the deponent’s life insurance policy; photographs from both families’ wedding and post-wedding functions

6. That this marriage was entered into for genuine matrimonial reasons and not for the primary purpose of obtaining any immigration advantage, and that I make this affidavit in support of a visa application concerning Canada, to be relied upon by the concerned visa or consular authority.

7. That the contents of this affidavit are true and correct to my knowledge and belief, that no part of it is false and that nothing material has been concealed therefrom.
