When you need it

For a person who must swear either that they are presently unemployed, or that they are the only earning member of their family — where a form, a school, a Government office, a bank, a court or an employer asks for a sworn statement of that position. You choose which of the two applies in the questions, and the affidavit says only that.

Sworn in Punjab before a notary or oath commissioner, and used with the Sewa Kendra, edistrict.punjabgovt.gov.in, a Tehsildar/SDM or the office that asked for it; in Chandigarh with a Sampark centre, the Deputy Commissioner's office or the office that asked for it. Not for a character or no-criminal-case statement — use the Self-Declaration / Character Affidavit. Not for a sworn statement of income for an income certificate — use the Income Affidavit. Not for a pension for an old or widowed person — use the Old Age / Widow Pension Affidavit.

Stamp duty

Punjab: Article 4, Schedule 1-A to the Indian Stamp Act, 1899 as applicable to Punjab, non-judicial stamp paper, commonly Rs 10, e-stamped via SHCIL (shcilestamp.com) or bought from a licensed vendor. Chandigarh: Article 4, Schedule I to the Indian Stamp Act, 1899 as extended to the Union Territory, non-judicial stamp paper, commonly Rs 10, from SHCIL or the Treasury, Sector 17.

Registration

Not a registrable instrument. Handed to the office, school, bank or employer that asked for it, together with the form it supports. The recipient may check the statement against other records, for example an employment-exchange registration, a pay record or a family list, where it has them. There is no Sub-Registrar step.

Notarisation

Sworn before a Notary Public (Notaries Act, 1952) or an Executive Magistrate/Oath Commissioner. Where sworn on the spot at a Sewa Kendra (Punjab) or Sampark centre (Chandigarh), that counter's own attesting officer may accept the affidavit in their presence in place of prior notarisation — confirm with the specific counter first.

Witnesses

None required by law for the affidavit itself; it is authenticated by the notary's or attesting officer's seal alone.

1.1 I declare that I am presently unemployed, and am not engaged in any paid employment, business or self-employment.

I have been without paid work since the following, and what I last did was: Since March 2025, when the factory I worked in as a helper shut down.

2. PURPOSE

2.1 This affidavit is sworn for the following purpose, and is to be given to the following person or office: Application for a fee concession, Government Polytechnic College, Ludhiana.

2.2 I undertake to inform the person or office to whom this affidavit is given if my position stated above changes before it is acted upon, and I understand that any benefit granted on the strength of a false statement here may be withdrawn.

3. DECLARATION

3.1 Every statement made above is true to my own knowledge and belief, and I have concealed nothing material to this application. I am aware that making a false declaration in an affidavit is an offence.

VERIFICATION

Verified at Jalandhar on 1 April 2026 that the contents of paragraphs 1 to 3 above are true and correct to my own knowledge, that no part of it is false, and that nothing material has been concealed.
