When you need it

You received gifts at a wedding, birth or another family event and want one signed record of who gave what, kept with your papers in case you are ever asked. It is not filed with any office and is not a gift deed. Not for the giving of a gift by deed: use a gift deed.

What follows is written for Punjab and Chandigarh. It states the position there rather than describing how it varies, so the amounts below are the ones that apply — worth confirming at the sub-registrar’s office, because rates change. If the property is anywhere else in India, none of this is yours.

DECLARATION OF GIFTS RECEIVED

Date: 2 April 2026.

I, Manpreet Kaur, of House 9, Sector 70, Mohali, PAN ABCDE1234F, state that on the occasion of my marriage, held on 1 April 2026, I received the gifts listed below. They were given freely and nothing was given in return.

The gifts, with the giver, relationship and value of each: Aunt Surinder Kaur: gold ring, about 40,000. Friend Rohit Mehra: cash 11,000.

The total value of all the gifts is ₹51,000 (Rupees Fifty One Thousand only).

All the gifts were from my relatives.

I make this declaration for my own and my family's records. It is not a deed of gift, it is not filed with any office, and it does not by itself decide how any gift is treated for tax. Where the law requires a gift to be recorded, valued or reported in a particular way, I will do that separately. The particulars above are true and correct to the best of my knowledge and belief.

PERSONAL DATA NOTICE

This notice is given under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

Personal data in this document is collected only to keep a record of gifts received for the declarant's own tax and family records, communicate about that purpose, verify the information expressly supplied, and retain an evidentiary record.

The record will be held by Manpreet Kaur and may be shown only to the declarant, the declarant's family members and the declarant's tax adviser or accountant, and to a statutory or tax authority where disclosure is required for the matter recorded here.

If the matter does not go ahead, or this document is withdrawn before it is used, the personal data will be retained for 90 days from that decision and then erased. If it is used, the record will be retained for 12 months after the matter ends and then erased, except for a record that a statute requires to be kept for a longer named period.

A person named in this document may withdraw consent for future consent-based processing, request correction or erasure when the stated purpose has ended, or raise a grievance by writing to customersupport.kaagazaat@gmail.com. The record-holder should acknowledge and respond within 30 days.

Data minimisation: this document deliberately does not require a full Aadhaar number, Aadhaar-card copy, passwords or unrelated identity material. Detailed KYC should remain in the separate KYC workflow; tax or payment identifiers are collected here only where the whole purpose of this document requires them.

Personal-data instruction: I consent to the collection and use described in the Personal Data Notice.
