When you need it

There is a period between two jobs, or between your last job and today, when you were not employed, and an immigration authority has noticed it on your résumé or work history and wants it explained under oath. This affidavit gives the dates, the reason, what you did and how you supported yourself.

Not for: a break in studies (use the Gap Year Affidavit), a claim that you are the sole earner of a family (use the Unemployment / Sole-Earner Affidavit if one is needed for that), or a visa refusal (use the Explanation Letter for an Earlier Visa Refusal).

Registration

Notarisation

Required — sworn before a Notary Public, an Oath Commissioner or an Executive Magistrate, with the deponent appearing in person with photo identification. EMPLOYMENT GAP AFFIDAVIT

I, Gurpreet Singh, S/o Sh. Harbans Singh, resident of House No. 88, Sector 40-B, Chandigarh, holding passport number N4567890, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:

1. That my last job before the gap was as follows: Site Supervisor, Gill Constructions Pvt. Ltd., Chandigarh

2. That I was not in paid employment from 1 April 2026 to 2 April 2026.

3. That the reason for the gap was the end of a contract or a lay-off.

4. That during this time, I did the following: Applied to construction firms in Chandigarh and Mohali, attended a six-week site safety course, and helped my father on the family farm

5. That during this time I supported myself from my own savings.

6. That the gap did not arise from any disciplinary action, dismissal for misconduct, or criminal proceeding against me.

7. That this affidavit is sworn in support of a permanent residence application to Australia, and to be produced before the visa or immigration authority of Australia, or any other authority that may require it, and may be relied upon by that authority.

VERIFICATION

Verified at Chandigarh on this 2 April 2026 that the contents of the above affidavit are true and correct to my knowledge and belief, that no part of it is false and that nothing material has been concealed therefrom.
