When you need it

An employer, a background-check agency, an embassy or a foreign university has asked to verify your degree and transcript with the institution that awarded them, and the institution wants your written consent before it replies. This letter gives that consent: it names the party you authorise, what they may ask for, the purpose and the date the authority ends.

Not for sending someone to collect an original certificate, a parcel or a cheque book (use the Authority Letter for Passport, Degree, Cheque Book or Parcel). Whether the institution verifies at all, the fee, the time and the form of its reply are fixed by the institution; some also ask for their own printed form or a notarised copy of this letter, so check first.
