When you need it

An employer in Punjab or Chandigarh believes an employee has broken a rule, neglected a duty or behaved wrongly, and wants to put the allegation in writing and ask the employee to explain by a fixed date, before deciding anything. It states what is alleged, when, which rule or duty is said to be broken, and the last date for a written reply.

A show-cause notice is a step, not a verdict. It must not say the employee is guilty, and the decision should be taken only after the reply has been read with an open mind. For serious allegations, an inquiry usually follows before any penalty. Not the Termination/Warning Letter, which records the outcome; use that after this notice and the reply. Not for a complaint of sexual harassment, which goes to the Internal Committee under the POSH policy and has its own procedure.

This is said to be contrary to the attendance rule in your appointment letter.

You are asked to explain in writing why action should not be taken against you in respect of this. Your reply must reach the Head of Human Resources, by hand or by email to hr@northline.example on or before 1 April 2026. If you want to rely on any document or on any person who can speak for you, please name them in your reply.
