When you need it

Your own covering application to the Haryana revenue office (Tehsildar or Naib Tehsildar, through the Patwari) to enter your name in the land record after you got the land by sale, gift or inheritance. You choose which one in the questions and the letter changes to match.

A registered deed or a death passes the right to you, but the revenue record (jamabandi) does not change by itself. Until the mutation is done the old name stays on the record, which makes a bank loan, a later sale or a crop-damage payment harder. Ask the office first whether a mutation has already been opened from the registration of your deed; if it has, you may only need to follow it up. Not for: Punjab land (use the Mutation Application for Punjab or its mutation-on-gift and mutation-on-inheritance documents); correcting a mistake in an entry; a transfer that has no registered deed behind it.

No stamp duty on the covering application; plain paper. Any affidavit the office asks for goes on stamp paper of the value it states. The registered deed you enclose already carried its own stamp duty.

Registration

This application is not registered; it updates the revenue record. A sale or gift must itself be registered at the Sub-Registrar before the mutation can rest on it. Any fee for the mutation is as the revenue office states.

Notarisation

The application is signed, not sworn. Any affidavit the office asks for is sworn before a notary or an Oath Commissioner.

Witnesses

No witness is needed for the application.

I request that the mutation be entered in my name in the revenue record (jamabandi), that notice be given to the persons who must be heard, and that I be told the date of hearing. I also ask for a copy of the order.
I will pay any fee the office states and give any affidavit it requires.
