When you need it

You, or the family member you are sponsoring or supporting, are applying for a visa and the family income is from farming. The visa officer wants to see how much the land earns and from what, and a farmer has no salary slip or income-tax return to show.

This affidavit sets out the land, the crops, the year's income and the sale-slip (J-form) and land-record papers that back it. Not for: a sponsor's undertaking to pay for a student (use the Study Visa Sponsorship Affidavit) or a parent's support affidavit (use the Affidavit of Support for Parents' Visa). Use this one only to prove farm income.

What follows is written for Punjab and Chandigarh. It states the position there rather than describing how it varies, so the amounts below are the ones that apply — worth confirming at the sub-registrar’s office, because rates change. If the property is anywhere else in India, none of this is yours.

Stamp duty

Chargeable under Article 4, Schedule I-A (Punjab) as a nominal fixed duty; authorities commonly print Rs 25, though no official table carries a specific affidavit entry — confirm at the counter. Chandigarh applies its own Schedule I figure. If the consulate, embassy or agency specifies a stamp-paper value or format in its checklist, follow that in preference to the general figure.

Registration

Not registrable — an affidavit creates no right in property, so section 17 of the Registration Act, 1908 does not apply.

Notarisation

Required — sworn before a Notary Public, an Oath Commissioner or an Executive Magistrate, with the deponent appearing in person with photo identification. Because the affidavit is relied upon outside India, some authorities also ask for an apostille (India is a party to the Hague Apostille Convention) or consular attestation — confirm the destination country's requirement.

Witnesses

None required by law; oath and attestation are the relevant formality.
