When you need it

You are applying for a seat for your child in a school under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota or the free-seat quota for weaker and disadvantaged groups under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, and the school or the admission authority asks for a sworn affidavit of income, residence and eligibility along with the application. This is that parent's affidavit.

Not for the EWS certificate itself (use the EWS Certificate Affidavit, for the certificate application). Not for a scholarship or fee concession in a college (use the Income Affidavit for Scholarship or Fee Concession). The income limit, the categories, the age and the neighbourhood rule are fixed by the current admission notice, not by this affidavit; read the notice for the year you apply.

What follows is written for Punjab and Chandigarh. It states the position there rather than describing how it varies, so the amounts below are the ones that apply — worth confirming at the sub-registrar’s office, because rates change. If the property is anywhere else in India, none of this is yours.

Stamp duty

Chargeable under Article 4, Schedule I-A (Punjab) — a nominal fixed duty; authorities commonly print Rs 10 to Rs 25, though no official table carries a specific affidavit entry — confirm at the counter. Chandigarh applies its own Schedule I figure. Many institutions accept an affidavit on plain paper — confirm with the office that will receive it before buying stamp paper.

Registration

Not registrable — filed with the application it supports.

Notarisation

Sworn before a Notary Public or an Executive Magistrate, with the deponent appearing in person and showing photo identification.

Witnesses

Not required by law.
