When you need it

A scholarship scheme, a college or a school asks for a sworn statement of your family's income before it gives a scholarship, fee waiver or fee concession, and a plain income certificate is not what they want or you do not yet have one. This affidavit lists the family's income from all sources for a year, the earning members and any other scholarship already received.

Not for an income certificate from the revenue office (use the Income Affidavit, to support that application). Not for the EWS certificate (use the EWS Certificate Affidavit). Not for a school seat under the EWS or RTE quota (use the EWS / RTE Quota School Admission Affidavit). The income limit and the proof a scheme accepts are set by that scheme, so this affidavit supports, and does not replace, any certificate the scheme requires.

What follows is written for Punjab and Chandigarh. It states the position there rather than describing how it varies, so the amounts below are the ones that apply — worth confirming at the sub-registrar’s office, because rates change. If the property is anywhere else in India, none of this is yours.
