When you need it

You booked a marriage palace, banquet, farmhouse, caterer, decorator, photographer, DJ, band or wedding planner for an event, you now have to cancel, and you want your advance back. This is your own covering letter: it names the booking, says why you are cancelling, states what you paid, and asks for the refund within a set number of days and tells them how to pay it.

Send it by a way you can prove, such as registered post, courier or hand delivery with a signed copy, and keep a copy with your receipts. Read the cancellation terms in your booking first; the letter lets you say what you rely on. This is a first, polite request, not a legal notice. Dear Sir or Madam,

I booked the main hall and lawn for my son's wedding reception with you on 1 April 2026 for the event on 2 April 2026. I have paid you ₹1,00,000 (Rupees One Lakh only) in all. The payments were: Rs 50,000 by bank transfer on 5 September 2026 (receipt 118) and Rs 50,000 by cheque on 20 September 2026 (receipt 131)

I am writing to cancel this booking. I am cancelling because our plans have changed and we can no longer hold the event on that date. The wedding has been moved to another city by both families.

In cancelling, I rely on this term of the booking: the cancellation terms on the back of receipt 118.

I ask you to refund the full amount I paid, within 15 days of receiving this letter. Please pay it as follows: By transfer to my savings account No. 3318002100045512 with Punjab National Bank, Sector 21 branch, Chandigarh, IFSC PUNB0331800, or by a cheque in my name

Please confirm in writing that you have received this letter and cancelled the booking, and keep safe all records of the booking, my payments and our messages.

This letter is sent in good faith so that the matter can be settled without a dispute. If I do not receive the refund or a reply, I may take the matter further, which may include a complaint to the consumer commission or a legal notice. All my rights are reserved.
