When you need it

You are hiring one wedding planner or event manager in Punjab or Chandigarh to arrange and manage the whole wedding — the venue, caterer, decorator, photographer, music and the rest — instead of booking each vendor yourself, or you are the planner and want the job in writing. This agreement fixes what the planner will arrange, who signs with each vendor and who pays them, the budget and the planner's fee, when your approval is needed before money is spent, the accounts the planner gives you afterwards, and who bears the cost if a vendor lets you down.

The central question is whose name each vendor contract is in. The agreement asks you to choose, and also whether the planner may take a commission from vendors. Not for booking a single vendor yourself — see the Caterer Contract, the Decorator and Tent Contract, the Photographer and Videographer Contract and the DJ, Band or Artist Booking in this group.

What follows is written for Punjab and Chandigarh. It states the position there rather than describing how it varies, so the amounts below are the ones that apply — worth confirming at the sub-registrar’s office, because rates change. If the property is anywhere else in India, none of this is yours.

Stamp duty

An agreement of this kind falls under the general entry for agreements not otherwise provided for in the stamp law, and the figure for Punjab and for Chandigarh is not confirmed here. Ask a stamp vendor or the Sub-Registrar office for the current figure before you sign. Many such bookings are made on plain paper; an unstamped paper can be questioned in court until the duty and any penalty are paid.

Registration

Not required. This agreement gives no right in land or buildings that outlasts the booking, so it does not need to be registered.

Notarisation

Not required. A notary adds nothing to the strength of this agreement.

Witnesses

Not required by law, but two witnesses who see both parties sign are good practice, and this form asks for them.

  1. 1. THE WORK

1.4 The Planner will carry out the work with reasonable skill and care, keep the Client told of progress, and answer the Client's messages within a reasonable time.

  1. 2. VENDORS

2.1 The Planner will suggest vendors with care, tell the Client their names, rates and terms in writing, and book a vendor only after the Client approves that vendor in writing. The Planner will give the Client a copy of every vendor contract.

2.2 The Planner books each vendor in the Client's name and with the Client's written approval, and the Client pays each vendor directly.

2.3 Where this Agreement has the Client pay the Planner for the vendors, the Planner uses that money only to pay the vendors and arrangements it was given for, keeps it apart from the Planner's own funds, and does not use it for any other purpose.

2.4 The Planner takes no commission, discount or gift from any vendor, and passes on to the Client any such benefit the Planner receives.

  1. 3. BUDGET AND APPROVALS

3.3 The Client will settle the final choices (guest list, menu, designs and timings) at least 30 days before the first function. A change after that date may cost more and the Client bears the extra cost, which the Planner will show before going ahead.

  1. 4. FEE AND PAYMENT

4.1 The Client will pay the Planner a fee of ₹2,00,000 (Rupees Two Lakh only).

4.2 The Client paid ₹50,000 (Rupees Fifty Thousand only) as advance on 1 April 2026, and the Planner confirms receiving it. The advance counts towards the fee. The rest of the fee, and any vendor money the Planner is to hold, are payable as follows: Rs 75,000 of the fee on 1 December 2026 and the balance one week before the first function; vendor money in three equal instalments on 1 December, 1 January and 25 January
