When you need it

Use this when your trust or society in Punjab or Chandigarh receives a donation and you want to give the donor a proper written receipt, with the donor's short declaration that the gift is voluntary, is made from the donor's own lawful funds, and is not given for any return benefit. It records who gave, how much, how it was paid, what it is for, and whether the receipt claims any tax benefit for the donor.

Whether a donor can claim an income-tax deduction depends on whether the organisation holds the approval for it and on the rules in force when the donation is made, including on cash and on what details the receipt must carry. This template does not promise a deduction: it states either that approval is held, with its details, or that no deduction is claimed. Check the current rules before issuing a receipt that mentions a deduction. Not for money received from a company as part of its corporate social responsibility spending under an agreement — use the MoU with a CSR Donor. Not for gifting land or a building — use the Gift Deed to a Charitable Trust. Not for membership fees of a society.

What follows is written for Punjab and Chandigarh. It states the position there rather than describing how it varies, so the amounts below are the ones that apply — worth confirming at the sub-registrar’s office, because rates change. If the property is anywhere else in India, none of this is yours.

Stamp duty

A receipt for a donation is generally given on plain paper. Revenue stamps, where a receipt for money needs them, and any stamp duty are governed by the Indian Stamp Act, 1899 as it applies in Punjab and in Chandigarh; the current position is not stated here, so confirm it before issuing receipts in bulk.

Registration

Not registrable and not required to be registered.

Notarisation

Not required.

Witnesses

Not required. The organisation's authorised person signs the receipt and the donor signs the declaration.

DONATION RECEIPT AND DONOR DECLARATION

Receipt no.: R-014 Date: 1 April 2026

RECEIPT

Sri Guru Nanak Seva Trust, Sector 22, Chandigarh, constituted by Trust deed dated 5 March 2018 (the Organisation), acknowledges with thanks the receipt of ₹11,000 (Rupees Eleven Thousand only) by cheque from Harpreet Singh, of House 118, Sector 21, Chandigarh (the Donor). Reference: UTR 4021xxxx.

PURPOSE

The donation is for the general purposes of the organisation. The Organisation will use the donation only for its charitable objects and for the purpose stated here.

TAX STATEMENT

The organisation holds an income-tax donor-deduction approval, whose details are given below. Approval details: Approval reference and date as printed on the approval letter. Donor's PAN, given for the Donor's own tax records: ABCDE1234F. Whether the Donor can claim any benefit depends on the rules in force when the donation is made; the Donor should check them and keep this receipt.

DONOR DECLARATION

I, Harpreet Singh, declare that this donation is made of my own free will; that the money comes from the donor's own lawful funds in India; that I expect no goods, service or other personal benefit in return; and that I have not been promised any.

FOREIGN CONTRIBUTION

If the money comes from a foreign source, the Organisation can accept it only if it holds whatever registration or prior permission the foreign-contribution law requires, and will deal with it as that law says. The Organisation records the source of every donation.

LEGAL BASIS

Punjab and Chandigarh: This receipt is a record of a voluntary gift, not a contract and not a transfer of immovable property. It gives the Donor no right in the Organisation's property. Any tax benefit, and what the receipt must show for it, is decided by the income-tax law in force on the date of the donation and not by this document.

PERSONAL DATA NOTICE

This notice is given under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

The purpose of collecting personal data in this donation receipt and donor declaration is to identify the donor, record the donation and its purpose, and support the Organisation's accounts and any tax or reporting it must do.

The record will be held by Kaagazaat and may be shared with the Organisation's trustees or office-bearers, its auditor or accountant, and any tax or other authority that the Organisation must report to.

If the matter does not proceed, the personal data will be retained for 90 days and then erased. If the matter proceeds, the record will be retained for the matter plus 12 months, except where a statute requires a longer named retention period.

A person named in this document may request correction or erasure where the purpose has ended, withdraw consent for future consent-based processing, or raise a grievance by writing to privacy@example.com. The record-holder should acknowledge and reply within 30 days.
