When you need it

Use this when a sale or letting you brokered has been concluded and you want the client to sign a single page that records what was done and what brokerage is due: the parties, property, price, documents signed, brokerage rate, amount received so far and the balance with its date. If payment is later disputed, the client's signed acknowledgement is your best evidence.

What follows is written for Punjab and Chandigarh. It states the position there rather than describing how it varies, so the amounts below are the ones that apply — worth confirming at the sub-registrar’s office, because rates change. If the property is anywhere else in India, none of this is yours.

Stamp duty

No stamp duty — a record of requirements, not an agreement to pay or to buy. Plain paper is enough.

Registration

Not registrable and not meant to be.

Notarisation

Not required.
