When you need it

A residents' welfare association or apartment owners' body is due to elect its managing committee, and its bye-laws let it run the election itself. This gives the three papers an election needs: the Election Officer's notice with the programme (nominations, scrutiny, withdrawal, polling), a blank nomination form for candidates, proposers and seconders, and a secret ballot paper.

The bye-laws decide who may vote, who may stand and for how long they serve; this document states none of that. Not for a co-operative housing society whose election is held under its Act by the authority the Act names. Not for a vote on a single matter at a general meeting.

PROGRAMME

Last date for filing nominations: 2 April 2026, with the Election Officer at the Association's office.
Scrutiny of nominations: 3 April 2026.
Last date for withdrawal of candidature: 4 April 2026.
Polling: 5 April 2026, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, at the community hall.
Counting and result: straight after polling closes; the result will be announced and put up on the notice board.

Who may stand and vote: a member whose name is on the Association's register of members and who meets the conditions in the bye-laws. Voting is by secret ballot. A member may vote for no more candidates for a post than there are places to fill.
